Raphael Soriano (1907-1988) was one of the early Case Study architects working in postwar Los Angeles university of southern california los angeles and a talented advocate of the new building materials university of southern california los angeles and construction techniques developed at the time. Though not as familiar a name today, Soriano was a major influence on his colleagues university of southern california los angeles and was rediscovered by a later generation of architects, including Frank Gehry university of southern california los angeles and Richard Rogers, for his innovative use of steel university of southern california los angeles and aluminum university of southern california los angeles and his early interst in low-cost, prefabricated structures. This is the first monograph on Soriano, illustrated primarily with black-and-white photographs by respected architectural photographer Julius Shulman, a long-time friend university of southern california los angeles and colleague. Born in Rhodes, Soriano brought an outsider's perspective when he arrived in Los Angeles with little grasp of English in 1924, at the age of 17.
