When Computers Went to Sea: The Digitization of the United States Navy
"When Computers Went to Sea" explores the history of the United States Navy's secret development of code-breaking computers modular closet system and their adaptation to solve a critical fleet radar data handling problem in the Navy's first seaborne digital computer system - that went to sea in 1962. This is the only book written on the United States Navy's initial application of shipboard digital computers to naval warfare. Considered one of the most successful projects ever undertaken by the US Navy, the Naval Tactical Data System (NTDS) was the subject of numerous studies attempting to pinpoint the reason for the systems inordinate success in the face of seemingly impossible technical challenges modular closet system and stiff resistance from some in the military. The system's success precipitated a digital revolution in naval warfare systems. Dave Boslaugh details the innovations developed by the NTDS project managers including: project management techniques, modular digital hardware for ship systems, top-down modular computer programming techniques, innovative computer program documentation, modular closet system and other novel real-time computer system concepts. Automated military systems users modular closet system and developers, real-time process control systems designers, automated system project managers, modular closet system and digital technology history students will find this account of a United States military organization's initial foray into computerization interesting modular closet system and thought provoking.

Ten Thousand Things: Module and Mass Production in Chinese Art by Lothar Ledderose,

Ten Thousand Things: Module and Mass Production in Chinese Art by Lothar Ledderose,
Chinese workers in the third century b.c. created seven thousand life-sized terracotta soldiers to guard the tomb of the First Emperor. In the eleventh century a.d., Chinese builders constructed a pagoda from as many as thirty thousand separately carved wooden pieces. In the seventeenth modular closet system and eighteenth centuries, China exported more than a hundred million pieces of porcelain to the West. As these examples show, the Chinese throughout history have produced works of art in astonishing quantities--and have done so without sacrificing quality, affordability, or speed of manufacture. How have they managed this? Lothar Ledderose takes us on a remarkable tour of Chinese art modular closet system and culture to explain how artists used complex systems of mass production to assemble extraordinary objects from standardized parts or modules. As he reveals, these systems have deep roots in Chinese thought--in the idea that the universe consists of ten thousand categories of things, for example--and reflect characteristically Chinese modes of social organization. Ledderose begins with the modular system "par excellence: Chinese script, an ancient system of fifty thousand characters produced from a repertoire of only about two hundred components. He shows how Chinese artists used related modular systems to create ritual bronzes, to produce the First Emperor's terracotta army, modular closet system and to develop the world's first printing systems. He explores the dazzling variety of lacquerware modular closet system and porcelain that the West found so seductive, modular closet system and examines how works as diverse as imperial palaces modular closet system and paintings of hell relied on elegant variation of standardized components. Ledderose explains that Chinese artists, unlike their Westerncounterparts, did not seek to reproduce individual objects of nature faithfully, but sought instead to mimic nature's ability to produce limitless "numbers of objects.

Standard Modular System - The Standard Modular System (SMS) was a system of standard transistorized circuit boards developed by IBM in the late 1950s, originally for the IBM 7030, then used in their computers and peripherals until the middle 1970s.

The Broom Closet - The Broom Closet is a term used amongst Neo-Pagans (particularly Wiccans) to describe the state in which a follower of this belief system conceals their beliefs from the non-Neo-Pagan world. To come out of the "broom closet" means to acknowledge publicly one's belief in a Neo-Pagan religion.

Modular Weapon - A Modular Weapon (or Modular Weapons System) is a weapon that allows for many modifications. Modularity has become a major attribute looked for by today's military and law enforcement because they can bulk buy one or two models of rifle, then bulk buy hundreds of add-on modules (grenade launchers, laser pointers, scopes or torches) which can be used with every other rifle.

Memory Pool System - The Memory Pool System (MPS) is a flexible and modular memory management system that was developed by Harlequin to support both their ScriptWorks PostScript RIP, and their Harlequin Dylan compiler and IDE for the Dylan programming language. As such it was designed to support a wide range of requirements from high-speed manual memory management, to complex garbage collection with many different types of reference.
